Claude Haiku 4.5 is Anthropic's fast tier, and it is the first Claude model on this site. Claude has a reputation among people who write for a living, and it is not marketing. The models are noticeably better at prose: fewer stock phrases, a steadier register, and a willingness to actually cut a sentence when you ask for it shorter rather than rearranging it. Haiku is the fast tier of that family, so you get most of the habit at a fraction of the wait.
Not at claude.ai, which asks for an email and a verification code before the first message, and applies a usage limit after it. The Anthropic API wants an organisation, a payment method and a key. Neither is unreasonable, and neither is what you want at eleven at night when you have one paragraph to fix.

Give them both a paragraph to improve and the difference is usually visible in one read. GPT 5 is the stronger reasoner and the better choice when the question is hard. Claude is the better writer and the better editor, and it argues with you less about what you asked for. Many people end up using one for thinking and the other for writing, which the model bar makes easy.
Haiku is the fast tier. Sonnet and Opus think longer and do better on genuinely difficult work, and neither is on this site. For editing, drafting, summarising and everyday questions, which is most of what anybody asks a chatbot, Haiku is the one you would have picked anyway.
Claude is much better at improving something than at inventing it. Write a bad first version yourself, paste it, and ask for it to be made better. The result beats anything you get from a blank prompt.
"No bullet points." "Do not start with the word Actually." "Keep my contractions." Negative instructions are followed well here, which is not true everywhere.
"Three versions: plain, warm, and slightly funny." Picking from three is faster than describing what you wanted in the first place.
If the answer is too polished, say so. "Less smooth, more like a person typing quickly" is an instruction it can actually act on.

Claude is more willing than most models to say it is not sure, which is genuinely useful, but it can still be confidently wrong about dates, numbers and anything recent, and its knowledge has a cutoff. Where it is most reliably good is judgement about language, and that is what it is worth opening for. Check the facts; trust the sentence.
