Biblical Name Generator Online
AI Free Forever's biblical name generator gives you real names from the Bible. Pick the Old or New Testament, the gender, and the meaning theme. Each name comes with a short note that says where the name appears in Scripture and what it means in Hebrew or Greek.
How to pick a biblical name
A good biblical name has three parts. It is a real name from the Bible. It has a clear Hebrew or Greek meaning. And the person who carried the name in Scripture has a story you are happy to share.
To generate biblical names, set the Testament, Gender, Origin, Theme and Style:
- Pick the testament. Old Testament gives you Hebrew names like Ezra, Hannah and Caleb. New Testament gives you Greek and Aramaic names like Andrew, Lydia and Tabitha. Pick "Both" for a wider mix.
- Choose the gender. Male, female or unisex. Many biblical names like Ariel, Noah or Jordan work for either gender today.
- Set the origin. Hebrew names sound older and end in -el, -iah or -ah. Greek names end in -us, -as or -a. Aramaic names like Tabitha, Martha and Bartholomew sit between the two.
- Pick the meaning theme. Faith, Gift of God, Praise, Strength, Light, Mercy, Wisdom or Peace. The tool only picks names whose Hebrew or Greek root matches that theme.
- Add optional keywords. Type something like "starts with E" or "twin names" or "baby boy with strong meaning". Then pick how many names you want and hit Generate.

Frequently asked questions about biblical names
What counts as a biblical name?
A biblical name is a name that appears in the Old Testament (the Hebrew Bible) or the New Testament (the Greek Bible). Real biblical names belong to actual people in Scripture - patriarchs, prophets, kings, judges, apostles, disciples and women of faith. The tool only returns real biblical names or close period-correct variants - never invented "Bible-sounding" names.
What are the most popular biblical baby boy names?
The most popular biblical baby boy names today include Noah, Ethan, Daniel, Caleb, Jacob, Levi, Elijah, Ezra, Asher and Isaiah. Most carry strong Hebrew meanings: Noah means "rest", Ethan means "strong", Daniel means "God is my judge". Set Gender to Male and Style to Modern Classic to get this kind of list.
What are some pretty biblical girl names?
Pretty biblical girl names include Hannah ("grace"), Naomi ("pleasant"), Eliana ("my God has answered"), Lydia ("from Lydia"), Hadassah ("myrtle tree") and Tabitha ("gazelle"). Set Gender to Female and Theme to Gift of God or Mercy for soft, meaningful girl names.
What is the difference between Old Testament and New Testament names?
Old Testament names are mostly Hebrew. They often end in -el ("of God") or -iah ("of the Lord") and were used in ancient Israel. Examples are Samuel, Isaiah, Hannah and Sarah. New Testament names are mostly Greek and Aramaic, used in the Roman world of Jesus and the apostles. Examples are Andrew, Lydia, Timothy and Tabitha.
What does a Hebrew name ending in -el mean?
The ending "-el" is a short form of Elohim, the Hebrew word for God. Names like Daniel ("God is my judge"), Samuel ("heard by God"), Nathaniel ("gift of God") and Joel ("the Lord is God") are short Hebrew sentences about God. The ending "-iah" or "-jah" works the same way using YHWH (Yahweh) - so Isaiah means "the Lord is salvation".
Are these biblical names safe to use for my baby or my book?
Yes. Biblical names are public domain - free for baby names, novels, screenplays, Sunday school crafts, church directories and indie games. The Hebrew and Greek meanings come from standard Bible reference works. Generate again if you want a different mix.
Can the AI explain the Bible story behind a name?
Yes - switch to the Ask AI tab. Ask about the person who carried the name in the Bible, what their story teaches, the Hebrew or Greek root, the chapter and verse, or how to pair the name with a middle name from the same testament.
