Typing Speed Test — Measure Your WPM
The built-in typing speed test displays a random passage and measures how quickly and accurately you can type it. As you type, each character is highlighted green for correct or red for incorrect, giving you instant visual feedback. The dashboard shows your words per minute (WPM), characters per minute (CPM), accuracy percentage, error count, and elapsed time. Click New Test at any time to get a fresh passage.
How the Typing Test Works
When you click Start Typing Test, a random passage is selected from a curated set of sentences. The timer begins with your first keystroke. Your input is compared character by character against the sample text. When you reach the end of the passage, the test stops and your final results are displayed. You can retake the test as many times as you want to track your improvement.
Word Counter — Detailed Text Analysis
The word counter panel provides a comprehensive dashboard with twelve text metrics displayed in a visual grid: word count, character count, characters without spaces, line count, sentence count, paragraph count, estimated reading time, estimated speaking time, average word length, average sentence length, unique word count, and longest word length. Below the grid, a top-10 word frequency chart shows which words appear most often in your text with horizontal bar graphs.
Reading and Speaking Time Estimates
Reading time is calculated at 200 words per minute, which is the average silent reading speed for adults. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute, reflecting a typical conversational pace. These estimates help writers gauge how long their content will take readers or audiences to consume.
Your Data Stays Private
Everything runs in your browser using standard web APIs. Your notes are stored in local storage on your device and are never transmitted to any server. There are no cookies, no tracking, no analytics on your content, and no account required. This makes Notepad Online suitable for writing personal notes, drafting sensitive documents, or jotting down temporary information.
