When Was I Born?
If you know your current age but not the exact year you were born, the calculator can work it out for you. Switch to Find my birth year mode in the panel, enter your age, and it will calculate your birth year instantly. For a precise answer, also enter your birth month and day — this removes the ambiguity that arises because your birthday may or may not have occurred yet this calendar year.
Without a birth month and day, there are always two possible birth years. For example, if you are 30 years old today, you were born in either the current year minus 30 (if your birthday has already passed this year) or the current year minus 31 (if your birthday is still to come). Adding your birth month and day eliminates this uncertainty and also reveals the day of the week you were born, your zodiac sign, and your birthstone.
How the birth year calculation works:
- If your birthday this year falls on or before today: birth year = current year − your age
- If your birthday this year is still in the future: birth year = current year − your age − 1
- Without a specific date, both answers are shown — enter your month and day for a definitive result
What Is a Birthday Calculator?
A birthday calculator is a tool that takes a date of birth and computes several related facts: the day of the week you were born, your current age broken down into years, months, and days, the total number of days you have been alive, and a countdown to your next birthday. Most birthday calculators also include supplementary information such as your zodiac sign and birthstone based on the month and day of your birth.
This calculator provides instant results without AI for all of the core outputs, and also includes an AI chat option for follow-up questions about your birth date, astrological sign, numerology, or anything else related to your birthday. You can also use the live countdown in the hero section above, which updates every second showing the real-time ticker to your next birthday.
What Day of the Week Was I Born?
The day of the week you were born is determined by the Gregorian calendar, which follows a predictable 400-year cycle. Every date in history falls on one of seven days, and the pattern repeats exactly every 400 years (146,097 days). Because 365 is not divisible by 7, the days shift forward by one each year, and an extra day shifts them forward on leap years. This means your birthday falls on a different day of the week almost every year.
How to Find Your Birth Day
The most accurate way to find the day of the week you were born is to enter your date of birth into the calculator above. The JavaScript Date object computes this using the Zeller's Congruence or equivalent algorithm, which accounts for leap years and century corrections automatically. Alternatively, you can look up a historical calendar for your birth year, or ask a parent who may remember. Older paper birth certificates sometimes list the day of the week directly.
How to Calculate Your Exact Age
Age in Years, Months, and Days
Calculating your exact age in years, months, and days requires accounting for the varying lengths of months and leap years. The process works as follows: subtract the birth year from the current year to get an approximate year count, then adjust for whether the birthday has occurred yet in the current year. The remaining months are counted from the last birthday, and the remaining days are counted from the start of the current month, adjusted for the actual number of days in the previous month.
For example, if you were born on March 15, 1990 and today is February 22, 2026, your exact age is 35 years, 11 months, and 7 days — because your 36th birthday has not yet occurred in 2026. Simple subtraction of years alone would give 36, which is technically incorrect until March 15 arrives.
Age in Total Days
Your total age in days is calculated by counting every calendar day from your date of birth to today, including all leap days that have occurred in between. This is computed by taking the difference in milliseconds between the two dates and dividing by the number of milliseconds in a day (86,400,000). A person born on January 1, 1990 will have lived over 13,000 days by early 2026. The total days figure is useful for curious comparisons — for example, one million seconds is about 11.6 days, while one billion seconds is about 31.7 years.
Birthday Countdown
The birthday countdown in the hero section above shows a live real-time ticker counting down to your next birthday in days, hours, minutes, and seconds. This updates every second in your browser. The countdown is calculated by finding the date of your next birthday (this calendar year if it has not yet passed, or next year if it has), then computing the difference between that date at midnight and the current time.
If your birthday is today, the calculator displays a birthday message and resets the countdown to next year. The countdown is shown to the second because birthdays are a personal milestone, and for many people, especially children, the exact time remaining matters. The live hero timer updates as long as your browser tab is open. For general date arithmetic such as finding how many days are between two specific dates or adding days to a date, use the date calculator. For longer-horizon planning tools, the retirement countdown calculator works the same way, counting down years and days to retirement.
Zodiac Signs by Birthday
The Western zodiac divides the year into 12 signs based on the position of the sun at the time of birth. Each sign covers approximately 30 days of the year. The date ranges below use the standard Western astrological boundaries:

Birthstones by Month
Birthstones are gemstones traditionally associated with each month of the year. The modern birthstone list was standardized by the American National Retail Jewelers Association in 1912 and updated several times since. Birthstones are commonly given as gifts for birthdays and are believed in various traditions to bring luck or protection to the wearer.

Fun Birthday Facts
The most common birthday in the United States is September 9, followed by September 19 and September 12. This pattern is consistent because births peak in September, roughly nine months after the December holiday season. The least common birthday is February 29 (Leap Day), which only occurs every four years, meaning people born on this date only have a true calendar birthday once every four years.
The probability that two people in a group share the same birthday is higher than most people expect. In a group of just 23 people, there is a greater than 50% chance that two share a birthday. This is known as the birthday problem or birthday paradox. In a group of 70 people, the probability exceeds 99.9%. This counterintuitive result comes from the large number of possible pairs in even a small group.
Famous people share their birthdays with millions of others worldwide. If you were born on February 12, you share a birthday with Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin, both born in 1809. July 4 is the birthday of three US presidents: John Adams, James Monroe, and Calvin Coolidge. The Happy Birthday Message Generator can help you craft a personalized birthday message for someone using their name and birth details.
Frequently Asked Questions
What day was I born on?
Enter your date of birth in the calculator above to instantly see what day of the week you were born. The calculation uses the Gregorian calendar algorithm, which accounts for leap years. The result is based on the date you enter, so ensure you use the correct full date including year, month, and day.
How do I find out what time I was born?
This calculator determines the day of the week but not the exact time of birth. To find your birth time, check your original birth certificate, which usually lists the time of birth. Hospital records, baby books, or parents' records may also contain this information. Your birth time is primarily used in astrology for rising sign and house calculations.
What is my zodiac sign?
Your zodiac sign is determined by the month and day you were born, not the year. The calculator above displays your Western zodiac sign automatically when you enter your date of birth. The 12 signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces, each covering approximately 30 days of the year.
How many days old am I?
Enter your date of birth in the calculator above to see your total age in days. The calculation counts every day from your date of birth to today, including all leap days. As a rough guide, a 30-year-old is approximately 10,950 days old, a 40-year-old is approximately 14,610 days old, and a 50-year-old is approximately 18,250 days old. Actual counts vary based on the specific dates and leap years.
