Date Calculator
A date calculator performs date arithmetic including finding the number of days between two dates, adding or subtracting days from a date, and determining what date falls a specific number of days, weeks, or months from today. Enter your dates in the panel for an instant calculation.
What Is a Date Calculator?
A date calculator is a tool that performs arithmetic on calendar dates. It answers questions like how many days remain until a deadline, what date falls 90 days from today, how many business days are between two dates, or what date was 30 days ago. Date calculators are used in project management, legal proceedings, healthcare, finance, and everyday planning. Rather than manually counting days on a calendar, a date calculator performs the arithmetic instantly and accurately, accounting for variable month lengths, leap years, and optional weekend exclusions.
This free date calculator supports three modes: finding the number of days between two dates, adding or subtracting a time period from a specific date, and calculating what date falls a specific number of days, weeks, months, or years from today. All three modes support an optional business days filter that excludes Saturdays and Sundays from the count.
How to Calculate Days Between Two Dates
To find the number of days between two dates, select the Days Between Dates mode, enter a start date and end date, then click Calculate Date. The calculator subtracts the earlier date from the later date and returns the total number of calendar days. The result also includes a breakdown in weeks and remaining days, the day of the week for each date, and a business days count if the weekend exclusion toggle is enabled.
For example, to find how many days are between January 1 and March 31, the calculator counts every day across January, February, and March, accounting for whether it is a leap year. The result is 89 days in a standard year and 90 days in a leap year. This type of calculation is commonly needed for contract terms, payment periods, insurance coverage windows, and project timelines. You can also use our birthday calculator to find how many days until your next birthday.
How to Add Days to a Date
To add days to a date, select the Add or Subtract Days mode, enter a start date, enter the number of days, select Days as the unit, select Add as the direction, and click Calculate Date. The calculator adds the specified number of days to the start date and returns the resulting date along with its day of the week.
This mode also supports adding weeks, months, and years. Adding months accounts for variable month lengths. Adding 1 month to January 31 returns February 28 (or 29 in a leap year) rather than March 3. This makes the calculator suitable for subscription renewal dates, billing cycles, and recurring appointment scheduling. You can also enable the weekend exclusion toggle to add only business days, which skips Saturdays and Sundays when counting forward.
How to Subtract Days From a Date
To subtract days from a date, select the Add or Subtract Days mode, enter the start date, enter the number to subtract, select the unit, and choose Subtract as the direction. The calculator counts backward from the start date by the specified amount and returns the resulting earlier date along with its day of the week.
Subtracting dates is commonly used for deadline tracking. If a legal filing is due on a specific date and must be submitted 30 days before, subtracting 30 days from the deadline gives you the latest submission date. Medical procedures often require preparation a set number of days in advance, and backwards date calculation helps identify the correct start date for those preparations.
Business Days Calculator
Excluding Weekends
The business days option in this date calculator removes Saturdays and Sundays from the count. When enabled in Days Between Dates mode, the result shows both the total calendar days and the number of weekdays between the two dates. When enabled in the Add or Subtract Days mode, the calculator skips over weekends when counting forward or backward, so the result lands only on a weekday.
Business days counting is essential for legal deadlines, shipping estimates, bank processing times, payroll calculations, and government filing deadlines. Most courts, banks, and regulatory agencies operate on business days rather than calendar days, making this distinction important for accurate planning.
Excluding Holidays
This calculator excludes weekends when the business days toggle is enabled but does not automatically exclude public holidays. Public holidays vary by country, state, and industry. For calculations that must account for federal holidays, add the number of holidays in the period to your count when using the business days mode. The US OPM federal holidays list provides the official schedule of US federal government holidays. Common Date Calculations
30 Days From Today
To find what date is 30 days from today, select the Date From Now mode, enter 30 in the number field, select Days as the unit, select From Today as the direction, and click Calculate Date. The result shows the exact date 30 days from now along with the day of the week it falls on. Thirty-day periods are common in subscription trials, credit card billing cycles, return policies, and notice periods for lease terminations.
60 Days From Today
A 60-day calculation follows the same process with 60 entered in the number field. Sixty-day periods appear frequently in insurance policy grace periods, IRS response deadlines, and contractor payment terms. Many legal statutes require responses or filings within 60 calendar days, making this one of the most commonly searched date calculations. For reference date and time tools, timeanddate.com date reference is a widely used external resource for date arithmetic.
90 Days From Today
Ninety days from today is a frequent target in business and legal contexts. Quarterly reporting periods, probationary employment periods, visa stay limits, and many regulatory deadlines use 90-day windows. To calculate 90 days from today, use the Date From Now mode with 90 days selected. Note that 90 days is not the same as 3 months. Three months adds calendar months and accounts for variable month lengths, while 90 days always counts exactly 90 calendar days forward. Date Calculator for Deadlines
Legal Deadlines
Legal deadlines are among the most common use cases for date calculators. Courts impose strict filing windows measured in calendar days or business days. Missing a deadline by even one day can result in a case being dismissed or an appeal being rejected. Common legal date calculations include the number of days from a court order to a filing deadline, the response period after service of process, and the statute of limitations countdown from the date of an incident.
When calculating legal deadlines, confirm whether the court counts calendar days or court days. Court days typically exclude weekends and official holidays. Use the business days toggle in this calculator to exclude weekends, and manually account for any holidays that fall within the period.
Project Due Dates
Project managers use date calculators to determine milestone dates, delivery windows, and sprint end dates. By entering a project start date and adding the number of working days allocated to a phase, the calculator returns the milestone completion date. This is particularly useful for teams that plan in sprints of 10, 14, or 21 business days, where weekend exclusion is critical to accurate timeline planning.
For complex project planning with multiple phases, use this date calculator to identify individual milestone dates by working forward from the project start date. Combine it with our lead time calculator to account for procurement and production lead times within your project schedule.
