YouTube channel FAQs

Why are subscriber counts rounded?

YouTube only shows public subscriber counts to three significant figures, for example 519 million or 1.23 million. YouTube shares only the rounded number, so no site can show the exact count.

What is the difference between subscribers and views?

Subscribers are people who follow a channel. Views are the total number of times all of the channel's public videos have been watched, so they grow even from people who never subscribe.

Why are some big channels missing?

YouTube has no official ranking of all channels, so we track the largest channels we can find through YouTube's search, trending charts and a list of known big channels. Channels that hide their subscriber count are also left out.

How is a channel's country decided?

Each channel chooses its own country in YouTube settings. Some leave it blank, which shows here as "Not set". Country pages also include channels YouTube ranks highly for that country.

How are categories decided?

They come from the topic tags YouTube gives each channel. A channel can carry several topics, so it can appear in more than one category.

How often do these numbers change?

Channel statistics refresh once a day and trending charts every hour. Every page shows the exact time it was last checked.
