Condom Size Chart — Width and Length Guide

Condom fit is primarily determined by nominal width — the flat width of the condom when unrolled — which corresponds to the girth of the penis rather than its length.

Condom Size Reference Chart
Size Category Nominal Width (mm) Nominal Width (inches) Approximate Length (mm) Girth This Fits (mm circumference)
Snug 47–49 mm 1.85–1.93 in 160–170 mm Up to 100 mm girth
Standard Most Popular 52–54 mm 2.05–2.13 in 180–190 mm 100–115 mm girth
Large 56–58 mm 2.20–2.28 in 190–200 mm 115–130 mm girth
Extra Large 60–64 mm 2.36–2.52 in 200–215 mm 130–145 mm girth
XXL 69 mm and above 2.72 in and above 215 mm and above 145 mm and above

Nominal width is the flat width when the condom is pressed flat — approximately half of the circumference it fits when worn. A 52 mm nominal width condom fits a circumference of approximately 104 mm when worn because the latex stretches. The width is the critical fit dimension — length matters much less as excess length simply rolls unrolled at the base.

How to Measure for Condom Size

  1. Measure girth Wrap a flexible tape measure or strip of paper around the widest point of the erect penis. Mark or read the circumference in millimetres. This is the key measurement for condom sizing.
  2. Measure length Measure from the base to the tip of the erect penis in millimetres. Length matters less than girth because condoms accommodate a wide range of lengths.
  3. Find your nominal width Divide your girth measurement by approximately 2 to get the nominal width that will fit. For example a 110 mm girth corresponds to approximately a 52 to 54 mm nominal width condom.
  4. Choose your size Match your calculated nominal width to the chart above and select the corresponding size category.

A condom that is too tight reduces sensation and is more likely to break. A condom that is too loose is more likely to slip off. Both conditions significantly reduce effectiveness. The correct fit should feel snug but not uncomfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what condom size I need?
Measure the girth of the erect penis in millimetres. Divide by approximately 2 to estimate the nominal width that will fit and match to the chart above.
What is the standard condom size?
Standard condoms have a nominal width of 52 to 54 mm and fit a girth of approximately 100 to 115 mm. This size is used in most clinical studies and is the most widely available.
What size is a Magnum condom?
Trojan Magnum has a nominal width of 58 mm — classified as large. Magnum XL is 60 mm and Magnum Bareskin is available in similar dimensions. They are suitable for a girth of approximately 115 to 130 mm.
Does condom length matter?
Length matters much less than width for effective fit. Most condoms are 170 to 200 mm long and accommodate a wide range of lengths — any unrolled portion at the base is normal and does not affect effectiveness.
What material is best for someone with a latex allergy?
Polyisoprene condoms (such as Skyn) are the best alternative for latex allergy — they have a similar feel to latex. Polyurethane condoms are another option but are thinner and less stretchy. Lambskin condoms should be avoided as they do not protect against STIs.
Can a condom be too big?
Yes — a condom that is too wide is more likely to slip off during use, significantly reducing its effectiveness against pregnancy and STIs. Always choose a size that fits snugly around the girth.
What is nominal width in condom sizing?
Nominal width is the flat width of the condom when pressed completely flat — it is not the diameter when worn. A 52 mm nominal width condom fits a circumference of approximately 104 mm when worn because it stretches.
Are there condoms designed for smaller sizes?
Yes — snug-fit condoms with nominal widths of 47 to 49 mm are available from brands like Caution Wear Iron Grip and myONE. Standard condoms that are too loose are less effective and less comfortable — using the correct size matters at the smaller end of the range too.
